Teak has a naturally high oil content which makes it both stable and resistant to rot and over drying when exposed over many years to extreme summer and winter weather. For several centuries, these special qualities have made teak wood preferred for marine decking and shipyard construction. Today, teak is the premium timber for outdoor furniture.
Freshly cut teak wood is a warm golden brown color. When left outdoors, teak naturally fades to a soft, silvery gray color. If you would like to maintain the blonde color of the new wood, regular application of teak oil is necessary. If you prefer the silvery gray color, no treatment is needed. Simply clean the wood with mild soap and water when necessary. Teak wood will last for decades no matter what color you choose.
